Treatment planning
At Smile Academy, we are proud to use advanced treatment planning software that provides one of the most comprehensive ranges of options for our patients’ orthodontic treatments.

Treatment planning designed by Dentists and checked by Orthodontists

Our advanced treatment planning platform provides exceptional precision, flexibility and clinical control. It supports both conventional and advanced orthodontic mechanics while allowing clinicians to review and modify treatment plans securely through their web browser.

Every treatment plan is designed by experienced dentists and checked by orthodontists, ensuring both technical accuracy and sound biomechanics.

Plans are delivered within 6 to 24 hours on average, allowing for fast turnaround without compromising quality.

In addition to standard orthodontic techniques such as IPR and attachments, our system supports advanced protocols including elastics, sequential movements, pressure points, TADs and more. We can also integrate CBCT scans to visualise roots and jaw structures, enabling highly precise, biologically driven treatment planning for optimal outcomes.

Dr Reggie Ding — Orthodontist | Clinical review team

“As an orthodontist, I use my knowledge of biomechanics to guide the planning team toward treatment strategies that are safe, efficient and clinically predictable. This means carefully considering the sequencing, anchorage, occlusion and feasibility of the proposed movements while avoiding unnecessary or overly ambitious movements.

I understand the importance of keeping treatment focused. When treatment becomes unnecessarily long or complicated, patients can lose motivation and compliance may decline. My goal is therefore to achieve the treatment objectives with a carefully considered and efficient sequence of movements, without adding stages that do not provide meaningful clinical value.

I review cases when they first come through on the portal and provide initial direction to our team of dentists, who then develop the detailed treatment plan. Once the design is complete, I review it again from an orthodontic perspective and recommend any necessary adjustments before it is released to the treating clinician.

One of the great strengths of our process is that our team works together in the same location. We discuss cases directly, share our experience and support one another as a close clinical team, almost like a large family. This collaboration allows us to bring different perspectives together and maintain consistent quality throughout the planning process.”

Dr Euphie Liu — Dentist | Treatment planning team

“Having spent many years treating and caring for patients in clinical practice, I approach treatment planning from both a clinical and a practical perspective. I understand that a plan must not only achieve the desired result, it should also be efficient, manageable for the treating dentist and realistic for the patient.

My objective is to design treatment that progresses as efficiently as clinically appropriate, without unnecessary stages or overly complicated mechanics. I aim to use IPR and attachments thoughtfully: enough to achieve predictable movements, but never more than the case genuinely requires. Every attachment, movement and IPR prescription should have a clear clinical purpose.

We carefully assess the clinician’s prescription, the patient’s records and the intended treatment objectives before designing the tooth movements, staging and supporting features such as elastics and mini-screws. We then work closely with our orthodontic team to refine the plan and ensure that it is clinically considered, practical and tailored to the patient.”

CBCT Integration for Enhanced Precision

Our treatment planning software allows full integration of CBCT data, giving clinicians the ability to visualise not only the crowns of the teeth, but also the roots, surrounding bone, and jaw structures in three dimensions.

By combining intra oral scans with CBCT imaging, we can assess root angulation, proximity to cortical plates, bone thickness, and anatomical limitations before movements are planned. This significantly enhances the safety and predictability of complex cases, particularly those involving expansion, significant torque changes, intrusion, TAD placement, or cases with pre existing periodontal concerns.

Root visualisation also helps minimise the risk of unwanted root collisions and supports more biologically respectful tooth movement. The result is a more comprehensive diagnostic workflow and a higher level of precision in treatment execution.

Advanced Orthodontic Software

With our innovative web based treatment planning software, dentists can directly adjust the final tooth positions themselves without needing to download or install any additional software.

Everything is accessible securely online, from any computer and treatment plans can be reviewed from a mobile phone or table.

Clinicians can modify movements, refine the final setup, and customise attachment shapes as they wish, adding or removing them according to their preferred biomechanics. For those who want greater involvement, the platform offers a higher level of clinical control, while still allowing others to rely on our team when preferred.

Seamless Scanner Integration

You can establish a direct connection between your 3D scanner and the Smile Academy lab for a smooth and efficient case submission process.

Smile Academy accepts files from all 3D intraoral scanners. including but not limited to Trios, Medit,  iTero, Sirona Primescan and Shining 3D. Our lab is compatible with any scanner brand, making it easy for you to integrate your existing setup with our clear aligner system as well as our other dental products.
