Expander (RPE - Full Metal)

Rapid Palatal Expanders (RPE) also called Hyrax (for Hygienic Rapid Expander) are used primarily in children and teenagers to widen the upper jaw.

It is used when the patient has a narrow palate which cause teeth crowding, cross bites and other malocclusion issues. It is most effective in young patients whose bones are still growing.

Instructions For Use

This appliance is entirely made in metal and typically anchored to the upper molars using a metal band.

A small screw in the centre of the expander is adjusted periodically (it is generally recommended that this is done daily) to gradually apply pressure on the palatal bones.

The expander comes with a key used to rotate the screw. Typically rotating the screw by 90 degrees for a period of 1 to 3 weeks following the direction of the arrow labelled on the centre piece
